- _m_k_n_e_t_p_r provides access on a local machine to a printer that is connected
- to a networked remote machine. _m_k_n_e_t_p_r can be run either interactively or
- in batch mode.
-
- _m_k_n_e_t_p_r will run interactively if any or all of its command line
- arguments have not been specified.
-
- If run interactively mknetpr will first query the user and display:
-
- Spool files:
-
- 1. To another SGI workstation?
-
- 2. A printer connected to a non-SGI workstation that
- supports the BSD printing protocols (files will be
- converted to PostScript before being sent to a BSD
- print spooler)?
-
- 3. Directly to a network printer. A network printer is
- a printer connected to the network with a network card
- or network adaptor (i.e. an HP JetDirect card)?
-
- If 1 is selected then _m_k_n_e_t_p_r continues.
-
- If 2 is selected _m_k_n_e_t_p_r will invoke _m_k_b_s_d_n_e_t_p_r(_1_M) to configure a
- printer client to a remote system. The BSD printing protocols will be
- used to communicate with the remote system.
-
- If 3 is selected _m_k_n_e_t_p_r will invoke _m_k_j_t_p_r(_1_M). IMPORTANT: _m_k_j_t_p_r(_1_M)
- is part of the _I_m_p_r_e_s_s_a_r_i_o(_1) product. You will not see item 3 listed if
- _I_m_p_r_e_s_s_a_r_i_o(_1) is not installed on the system.
-
- If all command line arguments are specified, _m_k_n_e_t_p_r will not display the
- above menu and will assume that the remote print server is an SGI system.
-
- _l_o_c_a_l _p_r_i_n_t_e_r _n_a_m_e is the name you wish to give the printer on your
- machine (see _l_p_a_d_m_i_n (_1_M)). _r_e_m_o_t_e _h_o_s_t is the name of the machine that
- has the printer physically attached to it. Note that this machine must
- be accessible over the network. _r_e_m_o_t_e _p_r_i_n_t_e_r _n_a_m_e is the name of the
- printer on the remote machine.
-
- After running this program, you might consider making this printer the
- default printer using _l_p_a_d_m_i_n(1M). This command is only usable by the
- system administrator.

- Network printing to a remote system is achieved by submitting the print
- job to the local print queue. The interface file for the network submits
- the print job to the remote printer using the _n_e_t_p_r_i_n_t(_1_M) utility.
-
- If the remote system is an SGI it must permit the local machine to login
- using the id llllpppp. To permit machines to login as llllpppp, the remote machine's
- llllpppp account passwd entry should not have a password. If a password must be
- used on the llllpppp account, the program _a_d_d_c_l_i_e_n_t(_1_M) must be run on the
- remote SGI system to add the local machine to its privileged access list.
-
- If the remote system uses BSD printing commands, make sure that you have
- remote access to the system. Typically, this is done by adding an entry
- for the local system to the /etc/hosts.equiv or /etc/hosts.lpd file on
- the remote system.
